Diunna Greenleaf, the leader of Blue Mercy, is a native Texan who has a background steeped in gospel music. Influenced by the likes of Koko Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Rosetta Tharpe, Same Cooke, Charles Brown and her own parents Ben and Mary Ella Greenleaf, she has developed “Diunna’s style of Blues” in the same great Texas Blues tradition.
Diunna combines intricate patches of jazz, gospel, and heartfelt soul to create a kind of blues that takes one on an emotional roller coaster ride. Diunna and Blue Mercy have performed throughout the US and internationally and are veterans of the BBQ, Blues & Bikes Festival. She has opened for and performed with the likes of Bob Margolin, Keb Mo, Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, James Cotton, Carrie Bell, Joe Kubek, and many others.
Diunna was nominated for Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year at the 2008 and 2009 Blues Music Awards, was the Best New Artist Debut at the 2008 Blues Music Awards, Traditional Blues Album of the Year 2012. In 2014 Diunna won the prestigious Koko Taylor Award and was awarded the Blues Female Artist of the year in 2015.
